First you should
decide what is most important to you. the cost of
having your own place or cheep rent with roommates
ug, being within walking distance of the campus
and or bars, cooking facilities (not that you'll
ever cook), a quiet place to study or the party
time palace, or having a chance to meet other students
mostly the opposite sex ooh, recreational facilities
and entertainment. This will save you time when
you are looking for housing.
I recommend
that you leave your pets at home. A lot of rentals
in Boulder do not allow pets especially goats
and barn yard animals. The places that do allow
pets often require a large deposit and sometimes
charge extra. But taking care of a pet, especially
a goat, may not settle well with student life.
If you don't
like to cook, you can purchase an off campus meal
plan and eat in the residence halls. These are sold
by the semester and include a five-days-a-week plan
and a seven-days-a-week plan. For rates and more
information, contact the Housing Office (Hallett
76, 303-492-3316). Also, the "á la carte" flexible
meal plan allows students to buy discounted coupon
books redeemable at six dining areas on campus.
For info on this plan, call 303-492-8832 or go to
the University Memorial Center, room 321,or you
can dumpster dive "á la carte"and save big bucks.
If you are
married or if you have children, you may need to
contact the University Family Housing Office
(1350 20th Street, Boulder, CO 80302, 303-492-6384)
for information and application forms. University
Family Housing apartments are more affordable than
off-campus rentals. Reservations are first-come,
first-served. University Family Housing may also
have apartments available to single graduate students.
Unless you've arranged
housing in advance plan on looking, travel light.
Leave as much of you junk at home as you can, and
have them shipped to you later after you find a
place to live and get settled in.
